Ioanna Theocharopoulou, Assistant Professor, SCE, will be participating in the “Theatrum Mundi / The Global Street” conference at Columbia University this Friday, October 12, 2012. The conference is part of a new urban forum that “seeks to understand what brings life to a city, particularly in its public places and asks how these might be better designed.”
This event brings together two architects, Andrew Waugh and Michael Green, leading the design exploration of timber buildings, and Cees de Jager who directs the Binational Softwood Lumber Council, a nonprofit organization established by the Canadian and U.S. Governments to increase the use of wood products as part of the shift to green building. ‘As It Is On Earth’ has been receiving great press, and is the subject of a blog interview series at Metropolis. The panel discussion, with special guests Susan Szenasy and Joseph Salvatore, will discuss the phenomenon of writers who are also designers. How might the point of view, tools and palettes of the space designer behave differently in the terrain of literature?
People perceive space with many senses. Charlie Morrow gave a workshop within MFA Interior Design Studio 1 to investigate sound and audio experience as a primary consideration in the design of interiors. A video was made to capture the essence of the workshop: sound is an integral element in the design of interiors.
