Susan Szenasy, Editor in Chief of Metropolis Magazine, used her Editor’s Notes (April 2013 issue) to tell about the 2013 Aftertaste Symposium’s focus on our relationship to objects. The symposium, subtitled “The Atmosphere of Objects” explored many ways that everyday things influence the way we live.

Associate Professor of Architecture, Peter Wheelwright, released a work of fiction that has been selected as a Hemingway/PEN Award Honorable Mention. The novel, As It Is On Earth, tells the story of a college professor, struggling to come to terms with his family’s difficult past.

As It Is On Earth, a novel by Peter Wheelwright, published by the Fomite Press

As It Is On Earth is set in New England over seven days leading up to Columbus Day at the end of the Millennium, 1999. Narrated by Taylor Thatcher, an irreverent young university professor from a fallen family of Maine Puritans, the story follows his ruminative quest and errant attempts to escape from history.
