Spontaneous Interventions is the title of the critically acclaimed exhibition representing the United States in this year’s Venice Architecture Biennale. The exhibition focuses on projects initiated by architects, designers, planners, and everyday citizens, aimed at bringing positive change to the urban realm.


Architecture + Philosophy 2012 Conference at Boston University

SCE faculty Eva Perez de Vega is invited to speak at a conference called “Architecture and Its Image”, part of the Architecture + Philosophy Conference at Boston University Friday October 19th. She will be presenting her theoretical work in the form of a paper called, “Aesthetic Judgment of Built Space”, alongside keynote speakers David Kolb and Sylvia Lavin.


Oculus Fall 2012

Oculus, the quarterly publication of the New York Chapter of the AIA, featured an article on the creative work of the School of Constructed Environments in their Fall 2012. This special issue of Oculus focuses on the relationship between education and the profession.

Ioanna Theocharopoulou, Assistant Professor, SCE, will be participating in the “Theatrum Mundi / The Global Street” conference at Columbia University this Friday, October 12, 2012. The conference is part of a new urban forum that “seeks to understand what brings life to a city, particularly in its public places and asks how these might be better designed.”

In mag.net, designed in collaboration with Human Kinetics Movement Arts, a spider-like web of metal and elastic elements suspended and stretched in the space is reconfigured by dancers with magnets. Public free performances: Thursday 4th October 2012, 7PM and Thursday 11th October 2012, 7PM at 81 White Street.


‘As It Is On Earth’ by Peter M Wheelwright, a Book Reading and Panel Discussion

‘As It Is On Earth’ has been receiving great press, and is the subject of a blog interview series at Metropolis. The panel discussion, with special guests Susan Szenasy and Joseph Salvatore, will discuss the phenomenon of writers who are also designers. How might the point of view, tools and palettes of the space designer behave differently in the terrain of literature?


Sound Designer Charlie Morrow leads workshop with 1st year MFA Interior Design students

People perceive space with many senses. Charlie Morrow gave a workshop within MFA Interior Design Studio 1 to investigate sound and audio experience as a primary consideration in the design of interiors. A video was made to capture the essence of the workshop: sound is an integral element in the design of interiors.
