This event brings together two architects, Andrew Waugh and Michael Green, leading the design exploration of timber buildings, and Cees de Jager who directs the Binational Softwood Lumber Council, a nonprofit organization established by the Canadian and U.S. Governments to increase the use of wood products as part of the shift to green building. People perceive space with many senses. Charlie Morrow gave a workshop within MFA Interior Design Studio 1 to investigate sound and audio experience as a primary consideration in the design of interiors. A video was made to capture the essence of the workshop: sound is an integral element in the design of interiors.
Art, Environment, Action! is a creative teaching laboratory and environmental “artshop.” Bringing together artists, designers, architects, dancers, chefs, and scientists who work at the intersections of art, pedagogy, and ecology, it invites the public to join them to transform and activate the gallery.
“As part of my research on bio-inspired design, I took a trip to the south of Brazil (Rio Grande do Sul), where, for nearly the past ten years, I have worked with artisans to create my designs. On this trip, I decided to investigate the metal molding industry in this region, with the hope of uncovering new manufacturing and collaborative opportunities.”

As It Is On Earth is set in New England over seven days leading up to Columbus Day at the end of the Millennium, 1999. Narrated by Taylor Thatcher, an irreverent young university professor from a fallen family of Maine Puritans, the story follows his ruminative quest and errant attempts to escape from history.
SCE is pleased to announce that BFA Product Design and MFA Interior Design faculty Daniel Michalik’s work is included in the exhibition 40 Under 40 – Craft Futures at the Smithsonian Museum’s Renwick Gallery in Washington DC from July 20, 2012 – February 3, 2013. The Smithsonian has also acquired editions of Michalik’s 3/1 Chair (2011) and Massimo plates (2012) for their permanent collection.
The Prize was awarded to Goldberger for his lifetime work of encouraging thoughtful discourse and debate about the importance of design.
