SCE Faculty Designs Chosen for Little Free Libraries Competition

Three SCE faculty members, Alfred Zollinger, Mark Rakatansky and Aaron White, created little free library designs that will be included and installed for the IDEAS CITY Street Festival, taking place on Saturday, May 4, 2013.


Wanted Design – Design School Workshop

WantedDesign is hosting a three-day workshop in which Parsons students work with students from other design schools in Pasadena, Paris and Mexico City to develop innovative products that address the growing population’s impact on our water supply in dense, urban areas.

Kalil Grants Announced

SCE is pleased to announce the winners of the three $5,000 Kalil Endowment for Smart Design Project Grants for 2012-2013
made possible by the generosity of former SCE faculty Michael Kalil.


Jonsara Ruth Jurying Next Generation Design Competition

Jonsara Ruth, Director of the MFA Interior Design Program, will be a judge in Metropolis Magazine’s Next Generation Design Competition. The competition encourages young designers to challenge the limits of design.


SCE’s Andy Bernheimer Juries Little Free Libraries Competition

Andy Bernheimer of the School of Constructed environments will be jurying the Little Free Libraries/New York Project. This competition will award ten design teams with $1000 to design and create small-scale libraries to house books. The deadline to submit is Monday, March 4, 2013.

A unique writing competition open to all New School students in all divisions and all programs.

Timber in the City: Sustainable and Affordable Urban Housing

This event brings together two architects, Andrew Waugh and Michael Green, leading the design exploration of timber buildings, and Cees de Jager who directs the Binational Softwood Lumber Council, a nonprofit organization established by the Canadian and U.S. Governments to increase the use of wood products as part of the shift to green building. Creative Minds Competition

The Creative Minds Competition challenges you to explore multiple options for documenting and presenting your response to a design concept. Each month’s concept can be answered with ANY kind of design – architectural design, product design, landscape design, entertainment design, or any creative scheme. Submissions must include at least one image designed with Vectorworks software, and only entries from the U.S. will be considered.
