The Urban Design Group in London has shortlisted Urban Design Ecologies, edited by SCE Dean Brian McGrath, for the Urban Design Book Award.  The reader, published by Wiley in January 2013, features 23 texts organized into four sections and covers issues including metropolitan architecture, urban sprawl, the megacity and the emerging metacity.  Urban Design Ecologies presents a range of approaches to urban design, from the traditional models as practiced by architects and planners to newer practices that engage both social and environmental ecologies, bridging the sometimes conflicting concerns of urbanism and environmentalism.
