A panel discussion, organized at the Parsons School of Constructed Environments will present and discuss ideas about the history of Swiss factories and contemporary ideas in manufacturing in cities today from the perspective of sustainable industries and making things locally.

The Toni Molkerai factory will be presented as an example of a key industry in Zurich, its former use and transformation by EM2N Zurich-based architects. The designer Rama Chorpash, Director of Product Design at Parsons, who has designed for the Swiss companies Victorinox and Swatch Watch, will talk about manufacturing from the designer’s perspective.
The impetus of the discussion is the exhibition, Vertical Urban Factory, curated by Nina Rappaport at the Skyscraper Museum, opening December 7 in Lower Manhattan.
