M.Arch first year studio instructor Bryan Young and his firm Young Projects are the winners of the 2014 Times Square Valentine Heart Design Competition. Young Projects’ proposal, called Match-Maker, is a complex heart-shaped structure made of powder coated aluminum. It features 12 interconnected viewing tubes corresponding to the 12 signs of the zodiac; viewers look through the tubes in search of their ideal astrological mate. Young has launched a Kickstarter campaign to raise additional funds to fabricate Match-Maker. The structure will be on view at Father Duffy Square, between 46th and 47th Streets from February 6th to March 11th. This is the fifth year of the competition, which is sponsored by both Times Square Arts and the Van Alen Institute.
