Oda Olafsrud, SCE M.Arch alumna, completed her project for Joe and Cynthia Germanotta where she had been asked to convert a duplex unit, previously owned by filmmaker Robert Altman, into a habitable home.
Inspired by Scandinavian aesthetics, Oda approached the redesign as an exercise in choreographing space whereby art, movement and fashion, conveyed by the use of natural materials and soft color palette, collide to create a visually and experientially powerful place to live. Marble and wood are thoughtfully intertwined with steel design elements from the previous apartment and custom-made objects.
I believe the role of the designer is the choreographer to generate the process and product. I would say I choreograph spaces. As a creator, I am dedicated to creating spaces of meaning that inspires and gives absolute serenity.
Oda now lives and works in Oslo where she opened an interdisciplinary design studio, House of Creation.
