Congratulations to Rosannah Harding, Parsons architectural design faculty, and Matthew Ostrow on receiving a Merit Award in this year’s AIANY Design Awards. Their project, Perch, explores the adaptive reuse of one of New York’s most iconic and visited infrastructure — the Brooklyn Bridge. By introducing a new pedestrian level above the existing lower pathway, the proposal re-envisions this connective historical tissue in order to support the slowest users. Bringing together the flexibility of timber and elegant structural design that is simultaneously respective of the bridge’s own history and rhyme, the new walkway allows for a new, augmented public space to emerge and inspire different modes of interaction and exploration, challenging the familiar.
