Masters of Architecture Graduate, Rahul Shah, was recently featured in Fast Company’s Co.Exist Blog. The article highlights Shah’s thesis project, called Exorcise Pool, in which he develops a solution to the polluted Newtown Creek that divides East Williamsburg and Queens in New York.
Shah’s plan involves rerouting the contaminated water that currently flows directly to the creek, and diverting it into areas with plants that naturally absorb these pollutants like cattails and algae. Water would flow to treatment facilities that use an array of new water treatment methods like UV light.
Although this does not bring the water to a drinkable level, it would then be used in a new neighborhood pool and misting showers in the locker rooms.
