Parsons The New School for Design(link is external) has formed a new IDSA Student Chapter.

“Parsons is joining the ranks of Pratt and other area design schools by creating a student chapter of IDSA,” says Mary Chimenti, chapter co-chair. “We want to attend IDSA/NY events with industry professionals and bridge the gap between product design students in different schools.”

Rama Chorpash, IDSA, head of the Product Design Department and leader of the new Graduate Industrial Design Program at Parsons, says the chapter’s first objective is to nominate an IDSA Student Merit award candidate to attend IDSA’s Northeast District Design Conference in Boston in April.

“I first became involved with Parsons back when Steven Holt and Constantin Boym were running the program in the 80s; finally Rama asked me to help form a student chapter!” says Tucker Viemeister, FIDSA, chapter faculty advisor.

Parsons’ new partnership with IDSA also is commemorated in a drawing made for the swearing-in of the officers, by Semina Yi, new chapter secretary.

The other officers are: Vanessa Palacio, co-chair; Yingying Yang, treasurer; and Jaeseong Yi, press representative. (Source: IDSA)
