Gloria Cortina, Parsons AAS Interior Design Alum 1999, with an interior design practice in Mexico City has three pieces in the current Cooper Hewitt Museum exhibition, titled ‘Nature by Design’. The exhibition is open through September 2020. Her console titled ‘Black Hawk’ was acquired by the Museum last year for their permanent collection. “Black Hawk” is made with a natural pigment “Cochineal” and accentuated with a feather panel in bronze and black obsidian. For this exhibition Gloria Cortina was commissioned to design the wallcovering. Her hand painted wallpaper, also part of the Museum’s permanent Collection, was done with Cochineal (the actual insect), produced and placed in partnership with Holland and Sherry. Additional furniture designs by Gloria Cortina can be viewed at Gloriacortina.mx or the Cristina Grajales Gallery in NYC .
