The Faculty Works in Progress lecture series invites faculty members from the School of Constructed Environments to discuss current projects emerging from their professional practices. Faculty Works in Progress encourages forthright discussions of all aspects of a project, both challenging and successful. This semester, we invite Hayes Slade, Principal at Slade Architecture and David Crandall of formactiv: architecture.design.technology.p.c. to present.
Hayes Slade, Principal, Slade Architecture
PROJECTS | RECENT AND ON THE BOARDS
Hayes Slade is Principal and co-founder of Slade Architecture, with James Slade, and a registered architect. Their clients include the City of New York, Mattel, and Virgin Atlantic, and Aperture Foundation. In 2010, Slade Architecture was selected by the Architectural League of New York for the Emerging Voices program and Hayes served as a juror for the program the following year. Her work has been featured in over 300 publications and exhibits in the US and abroad and recognized with awards including NYC Public Design Commission Design Excellence Award, Interior Design Magazine Best of Year Awards, AIA Awards and others.
David Crandall, formactiv: architecture.design.technology.p.c.
HOMES FOR FAMILY
The extended time required of full scale material research, and the slowed observational position which results, are valued components of David Crandall’s architectural practice. Two autoclaved aerated concrete houses, assembled over years in Upstate New York, stand in contrast to the pace of the residential work which David oversees as a member of Formactiv P.C. in Brooklyn New York. Fellow Formactiv team members include Parsons past faculty Jorg Thone and Formactiv founder Ron Eng.
From 2003 -09 David completed residential, commercial and educational design projects as a founding partner of the New York City based architectural practice, Ishida / Crandall L.L.C. with Aki Ishida.
David’s practice is indebted to the early professional learning that took place as an architectural and interior design team member at Rafael Vinoly Architects, Jeffery Beers International and Maya Lin Studio.
