Dr. Sharon Egretta Sutton, FAIA is a 2023 recipient Women in Architecture Award and was honored Friday, October 27, 2023.  Dr. Sutton is a distinguished visiting professor at Parsons School of Design.  Architectural Record’s 10th Annual Women in Architecture Forum and Awards program to recognize and promote women’s design leadership.  The awards program, the only one of its kind in the U.S., shines a spotlight on the increasingly significant contributions of women design leaders, across generations and specialties. Testifying to the School of Constructed Environments commitment to equity in the discipline, the 2022 Women in Architecture Award went to  Professors Alison Mears and Jonsara Ruth of SCE and the Parsons Healthy Materials Lab.

Dr. Sutton was recently quoted in this New York Times article on the progress Black women have made in architecture and the continuing change that needs to happen.

“There’s always been a backlash to Black progress,” said Sharon Egretta Sutton, 82, a distinguished visiting professor at the Parsons School of Design in New York — and the 12th Black female licensed U.S. architect.

Congratulations to Dr. Sharon Sutton, we are so proud to have you as a part of the School of Constructed Environments and as a colleague, professor, mentor, and friend.
