You are invited to join MFA ID’s public performance event to open up a discussion on “Choreographing Space” publication, launching October 26th, 2021. The book has the same title as MFA ID professor Eva Perez de Vega’s collaborative project that started her practice, e+i studio, connecting dance and architecture to environmental design and pedagogy. The original installation, on which the book is inspired, was a performance event space she curated to host choreographers, musicians and dance film‐makers. Choreographing Space installation was built and performed as an exploration into the overlaps of space, movement, and performance. Every event was uniquely curated, opening with a different film screening by a dancer/filmmaker and followed by live performances with sound pieces written specifically for each show. This event, meant to open up a conversation between collaborative, community‐based events, and the role of design education, would also be a performance event, with invited artists such as Movement Migration.

This launching Talk event will include a community and public engagement component through the dance performance, and will be launched by a discussion, hosted online, that uses the publication as a springboard for a larger conversation around the themes that organize it: Flow, Engage, Perform, Gather. Born as a retrospective and future-oriented book,  Choreographing Space  engages philosophical thought with architectural projects located in Europe, Asia, and the US, as well as speculative scenarios that offer an alternative, less human-centric way of practicing architecture.

Following this zoom event, a public performance will tie the performance and the public Talk.

The performance, by Movement Migration, will take place in the outdoor dining structure located at 13 East 13th Street.
