Bernheimer Architects will participate in the development of new beachfront housing on New York’s Rockaway Peninsula. A now vacant 116-acre lot between Beach 32nd Street and Beach 56th Place will become home to the city’s first net-zero development. The new complex will include 1,650 units of housing, 1,320 of which will be devoted to formerly homeless, low-income, and middle-income families at below-market rates. It will also house new retail and office spaces, a new community center and nature center, the latter equipped with geothermal technology and a photovoltaic array.
More information about the future complex is available here.
