Announcing the 2023 Collab Student Design Competition

Announcing the annual Collab Student Design Competition, inspired by Stephen Burks

Dear Colleagues,

What does the next generation imagine for the future of design? Every year, university-level design students respond to a unique challenge that affects daily life with the best designs, which are showcased by Collab and the Philadelphia Museum of Art.

The inspiration for the 30th annual Collab Student Design Competition and recipient of this year’s Design Excellence Award is the work of American designer Stephen Burks, a recognized industrial designer, who is deeply invested in the transformative power of craft techniques that challenge the limits of new technologies within industrial production.

As your academic year begins or your summer term ends, we invite your students to participate in the 2023 Collab Student Design Competition at the Philadelphia Museum of Art. As a leader in higher education, we would be honored if you will share this with your faculty and students as part of a curricular activity or an individual student opportunity outside a specific course.

Students submitting projects to the Collab Student Design Competition must be currently enrolled in a college or university. We continue to use the CaFÉ system – the leading online application and jurying system for calls for entry.

Please download the brief here.

To read more about application requirements and enter the competition, visit the CaFÉ call for entry. Please note – all students must upload their work to the Portfolio section of CaFÉ prior to registering for the competition. All entries must be received by 6:00 p.m. on Friday, November 8, 2023.

Please let me know of your interest and any questions or concerns you may have at ruberrh@drexel.edu.

Warmly,
