2023 Waterfront Scholars Application

Apply for the opportunity to attend the 2023 Waterfront Conference as a Waterfront Scholar. Join hundreds of attendees at the Waterfront Alliance’s premier gathering of stakeholders, planners, environmental advocates, and industry experts. The conference will be held on May 8, 2023 at the Museum of Jewish Heritage in New York City.

This year’s Scholars program is sponsored by the NYC Economic Development Corporation (https://edc.nyc). Selected Scholars will receive free registration to the conference, including a private breakfast program with a special speaker. Scholars must provide their own transportation to the conference location.

Waterfront Scholars is a program that provides free admission to this annual conference—now in its 16th  year, it is the largest gathering of waterfront professionals in the region—for a diverse group of college and graduate students. Based on answers to a short application, Scholars will be chosen for an exciting learning and networking opportunity at our Waterfront Conference, the region’s premier forum for the shared waterfront. Annually, the event attracts more than 600 participants, including policymakers, community leaders, scientists, engineers, architects, academics, and environmental advocates, as well as labor, real estate, insurance, and financial service professionals.
The conference will be held May 8 in New York City at Lower Manhattan’s Museum of Jewish Heritage, and includes an exciting slate of speakers and panels. At this year’s conference, we are focusing attention on the best practices and strategies for implementation. Themes include climate resilience and sustainability implementation; resilient infrastructure; the central role of ports and the maritime industry in the future of the region and for sustainability; the needs and challenges of the offshore wind sector; commitments to the most vulnerable and environmental justice communities; and ensuring best practices in planning, programs, and decision making. Your students may be interested in theCommunities, Projects & Public Participation and Climate Resistance Implementation tracks.
To be considered, we’re asking students to fill out this short application by Friday, April 14. We encourage applications from all disciplines at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. Waterfront Scholars will be invited to attend the Waterfront Conference free of charge (students must provide their own transportation to get to/from the conference location) and will be recognized during the day’s activities.
