Two recent SCE graduates, Marina Lodi Ferreira Da Cunha (MFA ID ’15 and MFA LD 15′) and Whitney Shanks (M. Arch ’15), have been selected to participate in the first annual Design Apart Academy project. The project will take place in Venice during the exhibition of the Biennale (May 6 – November 22, 2015). The students’ brief is to create a penthouse interior in collaboration with Hotel Flora, a Venetian hotel. According to Inside Venice, which is chronicling the project, Casa Flora will be, “a home for Venetians, tourists, travelers, for enterprises and ideas.”  According to Design Apart, the goal of the project is to transcend the typical tourist’s experience of Venice, instead creating a space informed by and imbedded in the rich particularities of everyday life in the famous city.
