M. Architecture Program Director Andrew Bernheimer and Bernheimer Architects have been selected to design a large affordable housing development in Flushing, Queens. The 42,300 square foot development, called One Flushing, will include 208 units on the site of an existing municipal parking lot. Of these, 60 apartments are dedicated to seniors, with the rest open to a range of income levels. The proposal includes solar panels, a rooftop garden, and ground floor retail. There will also be community centers serving both the general public and seniors, programmed by Asian Americans for Equality and HANAC. One Flushing is part of a larger city-wide initiative to build affordable housing on under-used and disused city properties.
