Alexander von Vegesack, born in 1945, is a collector, curator, cultural entrepreneur and consultant. He initiated artistic centers in Hamburg in the 1970’s, set up a Thonet Museum in Boppard am Rhein and co-founded Vitra Design Museum in 1989, which he directed for 23 years. He curated exhibitions and published books about design and architecture for this museum as well as for the American Federation of Arts and Musée d’Orsay. His design collection has been presented in large exhibitions, by Centre Georges Pompidou and Pinacoteca Agnelli in Turin, amongst others. He founded the international museum conference MUSCON and in 1990 created his own center for design education and research: Domaine de Boisbuchet in France. Today he presents there innovative architecture and organizes workshops, travelling exhibitions, theatre and music events.
