This studio focuses on the interrelationship of architecture and climate to create housing, on a site in Brooklyn, NY that maximizes human comfort through passive design. Unlike design with active systems that rely on machinery, such as furnaces and air conditioners, passive design deploys fundamental architectural elements such as roofs, walls, windows, and floors to modify space and climate. In a time of deep environmental problems, the approach challenges architects to rethink our tools in ways that may not be new, but are frequently forgotten.
