Light Years: 1985-2015-2045
2015 marks 30 years since the first Master of Fine Arts in Lighting Design students graduated from Parsons, the first program of it’s type in the world. This public event featured a conference which addressed changes in lighting technology, socio-cultural conditions, and status of the lighting design profession using a 30-year interval as well as 9 student designed installations. This program is an official activity of the Lighting-Related Organizations associated with the UNESCO International Year of Light (IYL2015).
As part of the event, past and current students presented their speculations on the what the critical issues of lighting will be in 2045. These presentations were followed by a panel discussion moderated by Francesca Bastianini, a member of SCE faculty, an alumna of the MFA Lighting Design program, and lighting designer at Lumen Architecture.
