Recent BFA Product Design graduate Aakriti Kumar designs and produces furniture made from sustainable materials, creating as little waste material as possible in the process. Forbes Magazine recently profiled Kumar and her furniture line, Diffurniture, which she produces in the Gurgaon, near New Delhi.

Kumar was initially inspired to create zero-waste and repurposed objects and furniture while at Parsons, specifically in the course, “Rethinking Sustainable Design,” in which students were challenged to sift through their trash for one week, and create useful, beautiful objects from the discarded items.

Diffurniture designs are created by hand in Kumar’s workshop, and she is constantly rethinking her designs to make them more sustainable, more durable, and more efficient.
