On April 3rd interior design students from the AAS, BFA, and MFA programs joined other students from across the New York State to represent Parsons at the annual New York 11+ Student Exhibition. This year’s show was hosted by Teknion, and featured work by MFA students Catherine Lepine, Keegan Strouse, Jayati Gupta, Jamie McGlinchey, and Maria Camila Verastegui; BFA students Seung Hee Jeon, Dan Bi Lee; and AAS students Jaclyn Schenardi, Julie Marlow and Suvarna Jain. The group were also selected to represent Parsons Interior Design at a special exhibit at the Port Authority Bus Terminal, at a future date to be announced. The theme for this year’s exhibition was “Considering Space.” NY11+ was founded by Ruth Lynford in 1997 as an exhibition of work from six New York metropolitan area interior design institutions. The exhibition has since grown to include more than a dozen New York area schools as a way to promote the student work to the press, public, and professional design communities. According to their mission, “NY11+ is dedicated to promoting public awareness of the interior design profession by providing a platform to showcase student work from prestigious New York State institutions. By increasing visibility, it aims to emphasize the complexity and responsibility of the profession, particularly as it pertains to the health, safety, welfare and economics of the public. NY11+ seeks to advance the purpose of interior design by demonstrating solutions to cultural problems, such as the diminution of natural resources, an aging population, ecological issues, and other social concerns.”
Last year’s selected Parsons students for the NY11+ 2017 Student Exhibition, “Interior Design: Bridging People & Places” were: Jesse Cermak (BFA ID) and Danbi Lee (BFA ID), Yuan (Mia) Xue (BFA ID), Ignacia (Ina) Morenés Allendesalazar (AAS ID), Michelle Berman (AAS ID), Annabelle Schneider (AAS ID).
