Want to learn more about the history of Highbridge Park? On Sunday May 8, the New York City Parks Department will be hosting a free historical walking tour of the Park.
Topics on the tour cover the water pressure problems of Northern Manhattan that date back to the late nineteenth century. This should prove to be a fascinating walk, as the Highbridge Recreation Center and Pool were all constructed on the site of the old Croton Reservoir; at one point in the only source of drinking water for the whole of Manhattan.
The tour starts at 1pm, on the corners of West 173rd Street, and Amsterdam Avenue.
