DIVING IN

The DESIGN WORKSHOP is a team of graduate architecture students from PARSONS SCHOOL OF DESIGN who provide pro bono architectural design/build services to not-for-profit organizations across the United States. This year, we are collaborating with the NYC Parks Department and the High Bridge Coalition to design and construct Splash House.

Currently, the Highbridge Recreation Center shuts down every summer when it converts from a place of education and community into locker and changing rooms for the daily rush of 2,400 swimmers who use the pool to cool off.

By constructing Splash House, we’ll be freeing up the indoor recreation space to give permanence to this community center where abundant youth activities are key to the many children who live in this densely populated New York City neighborhood.

We have spent the past semester drafting, modeling, and refining our design. Splash House has grown into the perfect mix of fun and function, and we know it will make a beneficial change to the Washington Heights community. Their Community Board has given us unanimous approval, and are eager for us to start building!
