In 2010, Parsons The New School for Design and its five international partners – KU Leuven (Belgium) TU Eindhoven (The Netherlands), IUAV
Venice (Italy), UC San Diego (Unites States) and Morgan State University in Baltimore (United States) have received a 4-year Atlantis grant to
develop the Urbanisms of Inclusion: A Transatlantic Education Program. This is a design, research and curriculum exchange program that addresses emerging territorial and socio-ecological issues which accompany the dual challenges of rapid global urbanization and the adaptation of cities in response to climate change and transnational migrations. These issues —including dualization, gentrification, mobility and migrations, territorial fragmentation, and uneven development— will be investigated in this exchange program through the lens of social inclusion. The program contends that these issues most deeply affect the urban poor and marginal, and the exchange will place graduate urban design, strategic planning, landscape architecture and visual arts curricula in Europe and North America into a unified framework of Urbanisms of Inclusion. The partnership provides a comparative framework designed to enable effective new and innovative urban curricular concepts, research methods, knowledge and action, in academic, policy and community contexts.
