SCE Faculty, Susanne Schindler, Is Part Of The Multi-Disciplinary Design Think Tank Team R8

Susanne Schindler, adjunct faculty for architecture at SCE, is part of the multi-disciplinary design think tank Team R8. http://teamr8.com/

Team R8’s proposal “The City as Living Room” for new forms of shared living along the Grand Concourse in the Bronx, is currently on view in the exhibition “Making Room: New Models for Housing New Yorkers ” at the Museum of the City of New York.

“Making Room” showcases innovative design solutions to better accommodate New York City’s changing, and sometimes surprising, demographics, including a rising number of single people. The exhibition resulted from an initiative launched in 2009 by the Citizens Housing & Planning to reform New York City’s regulatory framework; the goal was to remove hurdles that limit the production of housing that responds to current needs. In partnership with the Architectural League of New York, in 2011 CHPC engaged five teams of architects to address the design opportunities of changing code constraints such as minimum unit sizes or allowable household configurations.

The exhibition “Making Room” is on view through September 15, 2013. http://www.mcny.org/exhibitions/current/Making-Room.html

There will be guided tour through the exhibit with Team R8 and others on March 16 at 2 pm.
