SCE is pleased to announce the winners of the three $5,000 Kalil Endowment for Smart Design Project Grants for 2012-2013

made possible by the generosity of former SCE faculty Michael Kalil.

Parsons Student Grant: Rebecca Rand, “Flush Design Dry”,
researching the potential for expanded use of composting toilets.

Parsons Student Grant: Jacinda Ross, “Flexible Apertures”,
research into the fabrication of combined light control and air purification curtains.

Practitioner / Scholar Grant:  Vincent Appel, Architect, “Coastal House Prototype”,
funding research into the development of new typologies in elevated coastal housing.

The awards will be presented at the Fellow Lecture. This year’s Kalil Fellow is acclaimed environmentalist, David W. Orr.
